Recently, because we just fancied a bit of nostalgia, I bought a box of Viennese whirls. What a mistake. They were awful, there were a distinct lack of any jam or buttercream in the middle. So with that in mind I decided to use a Mary Berry recipe and make my own. Several people online had mentioned that the mix is difficult to pipe but the tip is to make sure that the butter for the biscuit is very, very soft. Anyway on Saturday afternoon I set about making a batch. They taste lovely and the 'biscuit' which is really like a very short, shortbread, just melts in the mouth. Admittedly they are time consuming but so much better than anything that comes out of a box.
