Gardening Themed Birthday cake - Friday 22nd March 2024

I had a special request to make a Gardening themed birthday cake for one of the team leaders at the gardening group that I volunteer with occasionally. It was a special birthday so something special was required. Although my bake of choice is cupcakes I do also make quite a few decorated traybake cakes for birthdays and charity events. For this occasion I made a basic vanilla traybake cake which I glazed with raspberry conserve, topped with a sheet of fondant icing and then decorated with sugarpaste decorations which I made using a selection of cutters and moulds, some of which were painted. The cake was then finished with vanilla buttercream rosettes around the top and bottom edges and green chocoballs to continue the 'Spring' colour palette. The result was a colourful cake which we all enjoyed with a cup of tea to toast the birthday 'girl'.
