I had an order for a 'special birthday' (60th) cake. The brief I was given was a colour theme of pink and white and to use daisies and hearts. I made a vanilla sponge cake which I brushed with raspberry conserve and then topped with a sheet of fondant icing. I made vanilla buttercream which I used to give a 'naked' effect to the sides of the cake. I then coloured half of the buttercream pink and using different piping tips I decorated the top of the cake. I added a sugar plaque to the centre of the cake before adding sprinkles, handmade sugar paste decorations and mini chocolate bars and hearts to decorate the top of the cake. Finally I sprinkled the cake with dried raspberry chips and gave it a spritz of silver glitter dust. For the bottom edge of the cake I added alternate pink and white buttercream rosettes and mini silver chocolate beans. I was really pleased with the finished result and so was my customer when she collected her cake.
